Binding Authority Underwriter

Manages book quality of assigned territory including risk selection, quality of book, classification, pricing, compliance, premium production, and service to agents.
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Reviews new business, renewals, endorsements, and submissions to determine acceptability using established company guidelines.
- Refers to the Regional Director risk generating a policy premium in excess of $20,000, annual receipts in excess of $2,000,000, payroll greater than $1,000,000, and property values in excess of $500,000.
- Assists other underwriters in proper risk selection, pricing, and classification within company guidelines.
- Maintains positive communications with agents to handle problems and explains and interprets company underwriting policy.
- Makes agency visits as needed. Travel within the assigned territory (which could be approximately 25% of the time).
- Conduct in-house and field reviews of agencies within assigned territory.
- Participates in agency training and education involving agency meetings, manual roll outs, etc.
- Insures maintenance of state manuals. Compiles update and improvement changes for inclusion in Underwriting manuals.
- Maintains current knowledge of changes in the insurance field.
- Coordinates with the Regional Director and other departments to achieve company profit and production objectives.
- Coordinates with other departments to achieve service, technology, and workflow objectives.
- Assists other team members with underwriting and marketing issues.
- Attends industry conferences as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Proven team player and energetic personality.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and analyze data and make an informed, calculated risk decision.
- Strong computer skills (in Microsoft Office products) with demonstrated high accuracy output.
- Strong problem solving, reasoning, and decision making skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and written/oral communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks while meeting established deadlines.
- Ability to demonstrate planning and organizational skills.
Education/Experience/Certifications:
- College degree or equivalent work experience.
- CPCU designation preferred.
- Prefer minimum of three years commercial insurance experience.
Physical Demands
- Physical demands are considered to be that of an office environment, climate controlled, with minimal physical exertion. This position requires prolonged sitting, ability to utilize a computer and interactions with others meetings or via phone.
- Ability to travel as necessary according to business needs.
